Laura Welch Christensen is an associate attorney with Jackson Gilmour & Dobbs, PC, in the firm's Baton Rouge, Louisiana office. Ms. Christensen received a B.S. in Marketing from Louisiana State University in 1988. She obtained her J.D. in 2010 from Southern University Law Center where she graduated magna cum laude and as the valedictorian of her class. Ms. Christensen served as an editor on the Southern University Law Review for two years, and earned the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) award for classroom excellence in security devices. She was also awarded an academic scholarship in 2009 by the law center. In addition, Ms. Christensen had the honor of serving as a student extern at the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal for the Honorable Judge Jewel E. "Duke" Welch. Ms. Christensen is licensed to practice in the State of Louisiana.
Practice Areas/Experience
Ms. Christensen's practice consists of environmental and civil litigation. She is part of the firm's team representing the State of Louisiana and the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator's Office in its litigation in connection with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Professional Background
Ms. Christensen joined Jackson Gilmour & Dobbs, PC in July 2011. Prior to joining the firm and while attending law school, she worked as a law librarian for Phelps Dunbar LLP.
In addition to her law degree, Ms. Christensen completed the Louisiana State University Paralegal Program in 2005 where she received an achievement award for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average upon her graduation.
